When I make adventures I like deep cuts, punchlines, and secrets buried deep enough the players may never find them.

Stingbaats, a Shadowdark community fanzine, is taking submissions for issue #1

So following the prompt I made a 300-word cave that I think is pretty indicative of my general inclinations when it comes to writing up my own D&Dish adventures. Basically, I’m pulling a prank.
Prison of the Goat
1 A waterfall conceals a natural tunnel, an open aqueduct of polished pink pumice runs along one side.
2A An enormous communal bath of polished pink pumice, filled with warm effervescent water, dominates a natural cavern. There is an opening high above in the ceiling. In the centre of the bath a cenotaph rises above the water line, it reads: In memory of the mighty druid Gaurlsith, who imprisoned Eimgeitir the Devious Goat. A brazier atop the cenotaph burns with an eternal flame fed by gas from below. Above the height of the entrance tunnel the air is thinner, and flames burn brighter.
2B Concealed beneath the bath, a portal to a fiery realm lies open at the bottom of the cavern, vomiting forth the dangerous atmosphere of that world. Flammable gas built up under the bath slowly seeps through the porous pumice.
3A The tunnel in the ceiling is filled with unbreathable flammable gas from the portal in 2B, it deals 6d6 damage to everyone inside the tunnel or within Near of the entrance when ignited.
3B A wall of magical self-healing ice seals a cavern at the end of the tunnel. A fiery, goat-horned form is seen pacing behind it. Engraved into the wall from inside the cavern in 200gp worth of gold is the spell Command Demon, readable through the ice. The wall is functionally a scroll, and is destroyed if the spell is cast or copied into a spellbook. This is the prison of Eimgeitir the Devious Goat, a Greater Fire Elemental.
COMMAND DEMON
Tier 4, wizard
Duration: Focus
Range: Near
One demon you speak the name of falls under your control and acts on your turn, until Focus is lost. You may banish the demon with a second casting check while focusing.
Get it? Get it? He isn’t a demon so the spell won’t work on him, just free him. I’m hilarious. Please drop this little site into your cave system, underground adventure, existing dungeon or underdark crawl. Now we’re both in on the joke.
